Spot on East,

And with that 8 (specifically the 7 outfielders) we have a real strong spine and core of the squad that are all still either young or right in their primes who we can hopefully build around for years to come.

Re: Best first team as of now
What is beginning to be really different in our team selection is that we no longer have an obvious first choice XI. In the past we were more about choosing the best players irrespective of form, the opposition and or tactics.

Having said that I would think other things being equal these players will be first on the team sheet most weeks

Fabianski
Fredericks
Diop
Balbuena
Rice
Fornals (maybe)
Anderson
Haller

Whilst of course a loss of form should see anyone of these "rested" I think these be the main men plus Nobel as an influential captain in the first part of the season at least. Injury, tactics and form will determine who makes up the other three starting slots and the bench.

Re: Best first team as of now
I think our best team is a 4231 but I don’t see how Lanzini and fornals fit into that and we did start playing 4141 tail end of last season
My preferred team would be
———————-fab
Fredrick—balbuena—diol—cresswell
—————noble—-rice
Antonio ——-fornals———-Anderson
——————-haller
But I think he’s looking at
———————-fab
Fredrick—balbuena—diol—cresswell
——————/—-rice
Antonio —Lanzini—-fornals—Anderson
——————-haller

I'm not Antonio's biggest fan, no way he starts with everyone fit, but without doubt you have him on the bench. Covers 3 positions and his off the cuff bull in a China shop style is good if you need to get back into a game.

---------------------- Fabianski ----------------------

Fredericks - Balbuena - Diop - Cresswell

------------- Noble ----- Rice -------------

Yarmolenko ----- Fornals ----- Anderson

---------------------- Haller ----------------------

Bench: Roberto, Reid/Ogbonna, Masuaku, Wilshere, Lanzini, Snodgrass, Antonio

Left Out: Martin, Ogbonna/Reid, Oxford*, Zabaleta, Cullen**, Sanchez, Obiang*, Diangana**, Chicharito*, Hugill*

*=Probably leaving?
**=Out on loan?

Assuming we pick up a striker for the bench, one of Wilshere, Lanzini, Snodgrass, Antonio isn't even making the 18. I could see Lanzini moving on to be honest in that situation.

Agree with that, Roeder

I'd like to see someone like Billing, N'Zonzi or that latest Portuguese player João Palhinha to partner Rice.

Re: Best first team as of now
With the Fornals signing, my guess would be that he wants to go 4-3-3 with Fornals, Rice and either Wilshire or Noble all covering, with the top e having license to stay up top, like Man City and Liverpool do. Would definitely get more out of Anderson and Yarmolenko that way.

Re: Best first team as of now
Diop and Balbuena are first choice and hopefully in their second seasons will get better and better.
If Reid can stay fit I see him as a better back up than Ogbonna but having 4 players who can centre half is a good thing.

Agree that having better players that can keep the ball helps relieve pressure on Rice and the defence.
Still think we need another strong central player to play with Rice who can win a ball and distribute it.
We are bit light weight physically if we are going to play the likes of Fornals, Lanzini ,Anderson and Wilshere.

Re: Best first team as of now
I have a hunch he'll have Fornals sitting deep orchestrating our play. Wilshere or Lanzini as the 10.

This is all assuming the captain doesn't start which isn't a given.

Fucked if I know.

I do know I wouldn't have Ried anywhere near the starting 11.

Had quite a few mistakes in him before his injury and can't pass the fucking ball.

Re: Best first team as of now
I dont like Wilshere deep...his ankles prohibit his ability to put challenges in and he never seems all that committed.

I'd like to see Lanzini or Fornals tried alongside Rice, with both being very mobile. Lanzini not great at tracking his man though so maybe Fornals the deep distributor. Given they went for him over Lobotka, maybe thats what Pelle is thinking?

Re: Best first team as of now
We may be top heavy this season as people say, with all the flair, but from what I saw of the under 21s, Fornals does track back, as does Anderson....sometimes.

I think the reason we were so easy to score against last season wasn't necessarily defensive weakness, more about ball retention, which I'm thinking will improve massively this season.

Do think we need a better defensive left back though.

Currently, I'd go:

Fab

Fredericks Diop Balbuena Cresswell

Wilshier Rice

Yarmolenko Fornals Anderson

Haller

90% of WHO are idiots for coming here on days other than a matchday.

(Presumably 0.01% of WHO are idiots for coming on here thinking it's a matchday when it isn't.)

Whilst i agree, he doesn't get everything right, in general he has us in a decent position.

That's why i question you getting angry with Pellegrini. It could be lot worse.

But, i cant see where anyone could have us in a much better position. Unless, as ive said, we have some Arab to chuck a ridiculous amount of money at us.
